The Great Resignation

What exactly is the GREAT RESIGNATION?!

If you don't spend your days on social media or on the Internet, you may be blissfully unaware, but during the month of April 2021, 4 million people quit their jobs. This was the highest one-month quit rate in 20 years! 😯

As the pandemic begins to recede, people are leaving their jobs in search of MORE. More flexibility. More fulfillment. More money. Others are rethinking what work means to them overall. How they are valued. How they spend their time. All of this reflection is leading to dramatic increase in resignations.

What does this mean? It means we are in an employee market. There has never been a better time to look for a job, transition within your career, or relaunch your career.

Employers are going to have to be competitive in order to attract quality employees. In order for companies to stay competitive in a post-pandemic world, they are going to need to allow flexible hours (including a hybrid option), ensure family friendly policies, remain open to employee's changing needs, and provide resources for mental health awareness.

We all learned a lot during the pandemic! Perhaps one of the biggest shifts was the inventory we took of what is most important in our lives, especially for our family. It has always been said that the people of the United States work more than they live. I'm not certain that can be said any longer. In my opinion, as we took inventory of what was important, there was a major shift in how people look at work ... work-life balance became a necessity, rather than luxury.

The landscape of the workforce has forever been changed. Hybrid will be part of the new normal and employers that do not work with their employees in this new reality will struggle to fill positions and retain employees. As we move into our new normal, what is most important to you?
