SMART Goal Strategy

We all know the saying; "a goal without a plan is just a wish." It's true! There is a real difference between dreaming + talking about what you want to do vs. putting pen to paper and outlining a plan to achieve your goal.

The SMART goal strategy is a clear process to help you understand how every action you take is related to the overall success of achieving your goal(s).

Think of it as a mind compass to navigate through & organize your goals.

S - Specific - Take time to describe your goal (or goals) and be as specific as you can:

  • How will you achieve your goals?

  • What are you trying to achieve?

  • Why are you doing this?

M - Measurable - As you are working to achieve your goal(s), be sure you have a way to measure your progress:

  • What are you benchmarks?

A - Attainable - When working toward accomplishing your goal(s), are you keeping an eye on things that may pop up along the way:

  • Is your goal possible?

  • Does it stretch you?

  • What could potentially limit/block you from reaching your goal?

R - Realistic - Taking a moment to review your goal and ensuring it is practical:

  • Is this result-based?

  • Is it the right time for this goal?

T - Timely - Be sure to put a time frame for reaching your goal:

  • When do you want to reach this goal?

  • How can you break it down into smaller bites?

  • What is the impact if you miss your deadline?

If your goal(s) is important to you, take action to achieve it. You get to focus on what is important to you. However, when you allow yourself to give up or lose focus, those dreams will never become a reality.

Hear me when I say ... it becomes obvious when you lack focus 👀 When your goals, dreams, + visions become blurry to you ... no one else can see them either.

SHARE your goals with your family, friends, and network. Allow them to help keep you accountable + on target.

Using the SMART goal strategy allows you to CLEARLY define what your goal(s) are and see them in real time. As you work to achieve your goal(s), be sure to see them, say them, and hear them as often as needed!
