How to make a successful Career Pivot

People tell me all the time how they need a "career change." Meanwhile, I respond with, "are you sure you are not looking to make a simple pivot?"

There is a true distinction between both. When deciding between a CHANGE or PIVOT, be sure to do the following;

  1. Give yourself a gut check! What is your motivation? There is a difference between feeling uninspired & discouraged vs. not caring about what you do.

  2. Change your thinking! Are you frustrated in your role because of negative thinking? Do you look at tasks as impossible or too hard, rather than how you can figure out how to do tough things or what support you may need.

  3. Ask the hard question ... What do you want to do that you are NOT currently doing?

When you are honest with yourself with the above questions, you will know if you are looking to make a turn (or rotate) within your career or do something different.

If a pivot is the choice for you, here are a few key steps to make it successful:

  1. Know your STRENGTHS Get clear on what you are good at! Having an understanding of yourself and how you function will help you narrow career options and help you grow!

  2. Transferable skills What are your abilities, expertise, or talents and how can they be used in a variety of career options.

  3. Know your brand What does your brand say about you? Does it represent who you are, what you do, or why you do it?

  4. Network Tapping into your support system. You do not have to go at this alone! Your network will help you with connection, visibility, and opportunity.

Are you looking to make a career pivot or change? Do you need help with deciding? Join The COMPASS Method and go from lost and confused to focused and fulfilled!
